My Opinion: Choosing between Audi A3 and A4
It depends on what your intentions are. If you’re looking for a vast assortment of performance upgrades and bolt-ons, then A3 will be your best choice. If you need to be more focused on the performance enthusiast perspective, there are better options than having a wide variety of aftermarket upgrades.
The a4 may be a better choice. It would be nice to see more players in the game offer more aftermarket upgrades and support for the b9a4, but options are limited at this point.
Now, something else to take into consideration when looking at both platforms: the Audi A3 does use a Haldex-based all-wheel drive system while the Audi A4, on the other hand, does use more of a traditional Quattro all-wheel drive system.
The Haldex all-wheel-drive system is not a huge drawback. However, many enthusiasts would prefer a much more traditional Quattro system being more full-time, but that’s a small deal. It just depends on your expectations and how you’ll drive a car. It is always something to note when looking at the different vehicles for your Haldex versus Quattro. So, the overall conclusion is that the A3 and the A4 are excellent vehicles. They’re great platforms and very reasonable cars that come well-equipped for the factory.
The bottom line is it’s a matter of what’s important to you. Suppose you want a fun, fast, economical, sporty car. The A3 is a great choice. You’ve got more aftermarket support, better tunability, and better performance upgrades. If you want more of a comfortable, spacious luxury sedan, the A4 will be the winner.
